A lot of people ask who is Athena Plus? What do they do?
If
you need help with machines, designs, tooling or automation, we can
help you. Its what we've been doing all along. In May of
2002 we started out as Meritus Plus. This was because at the time
"Meritus" was one of our vendors and a newly acquired division of
British Federal in England. At RWESCO we sold the cross wire
welding machines from Meritus. This had been going on since 1995.
British Federal acquired Meritus as a division in 1999.
RWESCO continued to sell Meritus cross wire welding
machines in North America for Meritus. In May of 2002
British Federal went under recievorship in England. In hoping
that Meritus would emerge and/or come back to life in some form, we
started a company called Meritus Plus.
Meritus Plus was started in July of 2002 to fill contracts as best as
possible for our customers who got caught in British Federal going out
of business. Our first "real" customer was Knape & Vogt.
Our only goal was to make the cross wire welding machine they had
ordered and keep us and them from as much damage from British Federal as
possible. We worked nights and weekends to make this first
machine and delivered it 4 days early. Additional sales came in
based on our willingness to take care of our customers no matter what.
In July of 2003 we changed our name to Athena Plus. In
mythology Athena is responsible for "knowledge and courage." It
seemed to be a good name to mix with our Christian based values.
Being engineers and technicians more than business and financial
people we didn't start out with a very good business plan. We
were trying to survive. Our customers had needs and we were going
to take care of them.
In order to take care of our customers we needed floor space. Cim
Systems, an ABB robotic integrator, lent us some floor space for the
first machine. Then we were with AT&E for about a year and
then Chesterfield Tool & Engineering for about a year and a half.
All of these companies were growing and ended up needing their
floor space for there own projects. Chesterfield Tool &
Engineering grew so much they have recently tripled their floor space.
We finally got some long term floor space at Patriot Park in
Anderson in December of 2005. Which is where we are today.
Athena Plus is very greatfull for the support of these companies
and still works with them today on an as needed basis.
We have built, re-built or re-tooled almost 30 machines so far.
In the spring of 2005 we decided all of our designs would be 100%
3D solid models. Resistance welding is still our core but because
of our experience and design capabilities we can take care of other
types of machines and automation as well. Many of our customers
are into arc welding robotics and other unique manufacturing methods.
So if requested we can make other types of machines and systems.
